On November 8th, there will be a levy on the ballot for a new fire truck. The current ‘first out’ pumper was purchased almost 20 years ago in 1997. Chief Eric Flora believes it is time to update our 'first out' pumper. This 2.3 mil levy will generate $80.50 per $100,000 of property valuation. The levy is for 5 years. Please vote FOR the new fire truck.

On April 21, 2016, Assistant Chief Dick Keifer, Captain John Berry, Private Chip Miller, and Private Josh Hamrick, members of the Grand Rapids Township Fire Department, received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of "actions above and beyond the call of duty".
"On Wednesday July 1, 2015, acting in a manner reflecting the finest tradition of the firefighting profession, they performed an outstanding service by rescuing a man who was floating downstream in the Maumee River holding on to a buoy.”
The “Certificate of Appreciation”, awarded by the Safety Council of Northwest Ohio, goes to Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, Lifeguards, etc. (professionals, while on duty) for their acts above and beyond the call of duty, on behalf of others.
Congratulations to our local heroes!

Spring is such a wonderful time of year as we welcome back the flowers, birds, warm weather, and longer daylight. We also welcome back tourists to Wood County and the Grand Little Village of Grand Rapids. The change of season can also bring unwelcome things, such as home improvement scams. Often times criminals will case the neighborhood looking for those to victimize and offer a really good price to paint, repair, or clean up your property. Please keep in mind first and foremost that "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is." Some indicators of a scam are:
Most criminals are opportunists; often times during these warm weather months we tend to leave our doors, windows and garages unlocked and open or leave our car windows down and car unlocked. These actions make it easy for criminals to steal what we work hard for. Good locks, lights, alarm systems and watching out for our friends and neighbors can help keep our citizens safe and their property secure. - The repair person drives an unmarked truck or van with out of state license plates
- Most legitimate businesses will not solicit door to door, rather they distribute flyers or make phone calls
- The worker has no business identification, local address or phone number; request an ID and call the company for verification
- You are offered a "special" price if you sign a contract immediately; legitimate businesses will not pressure you for an immediate response
- Beware of "we just finished a job and have leftover material that we can give you at a reduced price"
- The worker only accepts cash and wants all of the money up front
- Never pay in cash; there is no record of payment
- No written estimates or contracts are offered; if you have no contract, you have no resource, if the job is faulty or is never completed
- The worker has no references; ask for and check references before entering into a contract
