The Historical Society of Grand Rapids Ohio was pleased to nominate Dave LaRoe for the Ohio History Connections 2014 State Historic Preservation Award for his efforts in preserving the two historic buildings that comprise his LaRoe's Restaurant on Front Street in Grand Rapids. We were very excited to learn that Dave would receive the award on Saturday, October 18th.  Several of our members traveled to Columbus to be present for the award ceremony.  Of the 12 awards presented statewide, only two were awarded to Northwest Ohio projects. In addition, LaRoe's was one of only two awards presented to an individual. Most of the awards went to architectural firms, government properties and institutions. Congratulations, Dave!

On March 12th, 2015, Burt Lane, the Executive Director and CEO of the Ohio Historic Preservation Office visited LaRoe's Restaurant.  Members of the Historical Society Board came out to support Dave.

On April 14th, 2015, a plaque commemorating the award was affixed to the outside of LaRoe's Restaurant.
