2016-05-17 St. Lucas Lutheran Church Celebrates 130 Years in Toledo’s Old South End with an Ohio Historic Marker
Contributed by Joyce Mease, St. Lucas 130th Anniversary Team

The St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Congregation at 745 Walbridge Ave., Toledo, Ohio, is celebrating 130 years of ministry in Toledo’s Old South End with the placement of an Ohio Historic Marker at the church on Sunday, June 12, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Pastor Martin E. Billmeier will lead the congregation and guests in a festival Eucharist followed by the dedication of the Ohio Historic Marker which outlines the long history of this congregation, begun as a mission church for German immigrants in 1886. The beautiful Gothic-revival Sanctuary and Lower Church archives emphasize the German heritage of the congregation. Church archivist Georgia Steele will be available to explain the displays.
A hymn-anthem will be premiered by the St. Lucas Choir, Ron Lang, director, with music by Karen T. Biscay and text by Michael D. Biscay, with organist Jamie Dauel at the Moller-Tellers four-manual pipe organ with antiphonal organ and Zimbelstern.

The dedication ceremony will include the distinguished guests Mayor of Toledo Paula Hicks-Hudson presenting a Mayoral Proclamation and Toledo City Councilmen Rob Ludeman and Peter Ujvagi presenting a City Council Resolution. There will be fellowship time after the dedication with refreshments. The public is welcome.

The Sanctuary and Archives are handicap accessible. Handicap parking next to church and more parking across the street. For more information, please visit http://www.stlucastoledo.org or phone 419-243-8189.

Note: This is the first such Ohio Historic Marker for a church in Toledo’s Old South End, according to www.remarkableohio.org
